Chris Jackson, Gary Hampson and Lidia Lonergan led an MSc Petroleum Geoscience field trip to Utah, aided by demonstrators Carl Jacquemyn, Susannah Maidment, Daisy Rood, Adamu Suleiman, Carl McDermott and Alex Coleman. Principally focusing upon sequence stratigraphy, clastic sedimentology, structural geology and salt tectonics of some world-class exposures.

Daniel Collins presented a talk entitled 'The Potential Impact of Evolving Basin Physiography and Tidal Dynamics on the Mangrove Biome and Hydrocarbon Charge System in the Tertiary South China Sea' at the AAPG GTW in Wellington, New Zealand, on Modern Depositional Systems as Analogues for Petroleum Reservoirs. Daniel also received a Chevron-AAPG student award of $1500 to attend the GTW.

Rebecca Bell gave an invited talk at EGU entitled ‘Fault zone structure and seismic reflection characteristics in zones of slow slip and tsunami earthquakes’. She also presented a poster on ‘Strain migration during multiphase extension: observations from the northern North Sea’

Rebecca Bell was also appointed to the programme committee for extensional tectonics at EGU.

Thomas Phillips presented a talk at EGU entitled 'Basement structure controls on the geometry and evolution of rift systems - insights from offshore S. Norway using 3D seismic reflection data'

Johan Claringbould presented a talk entitled "Diachronous growth of normal fault systems in multiphase rift basins: Structural evolution of the East Shetland Basin, northern North Sea”.

Duna Roda Boluda presented a talk entitled "Sediment supply and grain size export from normal fault footwalls in Southern Italy"

Mitch D'Arcy presented a talk entitled "Debris flow grain size scales with sea surface temperatures over glacial-interglacial timescales"

Alex Whittaker conveened the session "Interactions between tectonics and surface processes from mountain belts to basins" co-organized between the geomorphology and structural geology divisions.

The Basins Research Group (BRG) at Imperial College London focuses on the geodynamic, struc-tural, and stratigraphic evolution of sedimentary basins. This range of ac-tivities is centred around a multidisciplinary group of Earth Scientists who are committed to understand-ing the fundamental geo-logical processes opera-ting in evolving sediment-ary basins, and the application of this under-standing to determining the nature, origin and occurrence of natural resources (see Themes).
