The BRG made a strong showing at the AAPG conference in Denver, Colorado at the beginning of the month.

A special thanks to Antje Lenhart for collating info and photos!

Psyched for the conference
Poorly contained excitement

Conference Panorama

Conference Field Trip

The 2-day post AAPG field trip was tailored for geoscientists and petroleum engineers. It involved field observations of source rocks, reservoirs and traps of Laramide Rockies petroleum system, Wyoming; USA.

Private Pre-conference Trips

Olly, Tom, Antje and Marijn had a 3-day camping and road trip through the Rocky Mountains in Colorado. The highlights of the trip were the Great Sand dunes and the Black Canyon as you can see below:

Becky, Johan and Antje had a short excursion to Red Rocks, Dinosaur Ridge and the idyllic town of Golden, close to Denver after the AAPG conference. Some impressions below:

Steeply dipping Red Rocks close to Morrison, Colorado with an amphitheatre that is used for open air concerts between the rocks. The Red Rocks belong to the Pennsylvanian Fountain Formation and are composed of conglomerates and sandstone beds.

Dinosaur tracks in the Cretaceous Dakota Group. The tracks mostly include Iguanodon-like footprints, but tracks of a carnivorous theropod are also present.

The Basins Research Group (BRG) at Imperial College London focuses on the geodynamic, struc-tural, and stratigraphic evolution of sedimentary basins. This range of ac-tivities is centred around a multidisciplinary group of Earth Scientists who are committed to understand-ing the fundamental geo-logical processes opera-ting in evolving sediment-ary basins, and the application of this under-standing to determining the nature, origin and occurrence of natural resources (see Themes).
